Truth be told, friends, we are spiritual exiles, cast out from the presence of God by our inherited sin and personal rebellion. Our efforts to create meaning, security, or peace apart from God only deepen our dislocation and despair. Blessed are we that God comes to us in the flesh, to carry us home through the cross and resurrection. Christ, the shoot from Jesse’s stump, restores what sin has ruined and prepares for us an eternal dwelling in His presence.
